About the Director

Makenna Cofer graduated from John Brown University's Digital Cinema program in May of 2022, where she built herself a reputation for her ability to push into relevant stories and topics, standing firm in principle and vision even in difficult discussions and looking beyond the low-hanging fruit to the real meat of the matter at hand. She is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, who has directed three short-form films that all had a successful run through the film festival circuit. She was awarded "Best in Show" for her first short documentary titled "Part of The Kingdom" at JBU's annual art show competition which featured all mediums of art from the student body. She was also awarded first place for all three of her short films showcased in this competition, which featured one narrative short film, and two short documentaries. In 2021, she was invited to speak on a panel at the Fayetteville Film Festival about the importance of diversity in filmmaking. In 2022, she was one of the 5 filmmakers selected in the state of Arkansas to screen Part of The Kingdom at The Arkansas Filmmakers Showcase, which featured an incredible range of filmmaking talent across the state of Arkansas. Makenna's directorial work for POTK Vol. I and POTK Vol. II was featured in her universities student newspaper on multiple occasions, which initiated conversation across the student body.
